Volunteers at Eventide Homes Stawell Inc. are valued members of our team who generously donate their time and help Eventide create a sense of home and family for our residents.

Volunteers contribute many hours of support and service to our residents, providing a comforting smile, a listening ear and a helping hand and most of all quality time with residents having a chat or helping pursue interests.

Volunteering in aged care allows you to strike up friendships with people who you may not otherwise ever get the opportunity to meet. Firstly, you will get to know our lovely residents, who have plenty of love and wisdom to share.

Coming from all different walks of life, our residents have lived through diverse experiences and many different stages of history. In working with them, you'll often get to hear their extraordinary stories. Some of them have experienced great challenges and adversity throughout their lifetimes, too.

It's a great way to get a reality check, and remind yourself that there's more to life than emails and social media.

Leisure and lifestyle coordinator Pamela Whelan said a variety of skills and personalities could made a difference to the lives of the residents.

"Whether you're a good listener, are great at arts and crafts or a talented guitar player, your unique skills and personality could make an immense difference in the lives of our residents," she said.

"Here at Eventide Homes, when you become a part of our Volunteer Team, we will provide you with a volunteer induction, relevant training and regular ongoing support."

In a year when many of us have experienced increased loneliness or isolation, mental health or financial stress, volunteering can help.

Evidence shows that volunteering connects us to others in our local communities, to better mental well-being. When we help others in our community or give our time to a cause we value, we also give back to ourselves.

Volunteering among seniors has been linked to improved quality of life, stronger social networks and increased levels of physical activity.

This week is National Volunteers Week and Eventide Homes would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our volunteers, past, present and future for all of the pleasure you bring to the aged-care facility.

Eventide Homes are now recruiting volunteers of all ages and skills. If you would like to join our growing and valued Volunteer Team please contact Pamela Wheeler - Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator on 5358 2027.

They would love to hear from you.
