The day is earmarked to celebrate LGBTIQ people and raises awareness for the work that is still needed to combat violence and discrimination against members of the LGBTIQ community.
The Grampians Regional LGBTIQ Network is using IDAHOBIT Day to raise awareness of the issues the members of the LGBTIQ community can face and promote acceptance and inclusion.

To celebrate IDAHOBIT day members of the network are hosting events in their communities and workplaces.
Northern Grampians Shire Council will be raising the rainbow flag on the highway in Stawell, while the Ararat Rural City will also raise the rainbow flag outside of the municipal buildings on the corner of Vincent and High Streets at 2pm.

East Wimmera Health services will be raising the rainbow flag across the five campuses and Stawell Regional Health will be converting their driveway light poles to banner poles and will launch them with rainbow banners.
Grampians Community Health is having a staff morning tea to raise awareness of LGBTIQ issues and Lifeways Consulting will be promoting LGBTIQ inclusion to businesses in Avoca.
Over thirty years ago the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder acknowledging that it is very much a part of a person's identity.
However, discrimination continues to be an issue for members of the LGBTIQ community.
In 2020 a national health and wellbeing survey of lesbian, gay, intersex and queer people found that almost 60 per cent of participants reported that they had been treated unfairly because of their sexual orientation in the previous 12 months.
