The Living Libraries Infrastructure Program allocated $640,000 for the library's modernisation.
A new conservatory-style space will be created by enclosing the courtyard, allowing the area to be used regardless of the weather.
Indoors, a modular circulation desk will be installed along with public computer desks and portable shelving to add greater flexibility to the library layout. The kitchen will also be redesigned to allow public access to tea-making facilities.
Further work will be done painting, flooring, panelling, lighting and landscaping the library's interior and exterior.

Northern Grampians Shire Council mayor Murray Emerson said the improvements would greatly benefit the region.
"Our community will be so excited to hear that there is now funding to implement many of the changes they requested as part of our feedback process with them," he said.
"These renovations will greatly enhance the function and experience of the Stawell Library and provide our community and visitors with considered and practical spaces for them to read, study, work and convene in."
The funding guidelines require work will begin on the project in the next 18-months and be completed within three months.
OTHER NEWS:
Northern Grampians Shire councillors endorsed the key recommendations of the Library Service Review at their meeting on Tuesday, May 3.
The refurbishment of Stawell Library was one of the recommendations, along with creating an outreach service and continuous improvement in the face of a shifting technological environment and limited resources.
The review stated that "the architecture of the current building is very dated, and the building requires ongoing maintenance."
State Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said the modernisation of the library would encourage greater use of the facilities.
"It's great to see the Victorian Government supporting Stawell's library with this investment that will make it an even more valuable space for our community," she said.
"The library is a much-loved part of Stawell and it's about so much more than books. Through this project even more local people will be able to access all the great services the library provides."
