A mix of smoke haze and heavy fog made for very low visibility for drivers along the Grampians Road between Halls Gap and Stawell on Wednesday morning.

Shelley Cawthorne said she was driving at around 6:45am, but had to stop on the side of the road as the conditions became too "dangerous".
"I had to sit for 20 minutes or so, I'm guessing six-seven kilometres out, six cars pulled over and I couldn't see anything at all," she said .
"It was too dangerous to drive.
"Yesterday was okay, but with the smoke and the fog I was driving between 60-70kmp/h, trying to avoid kangaroos as well.

"There could of been an accident as I had to come to a complete stop, I couldn't even seen the white line so I just pulled over hoping I was off the road, which I had to make sure by getting out of the car.
"I waited waited 20 minutes and slowly followed others with my hazard work light on the top of the roof and car hazard lights on.
"It got better as we got closer to Halls Gap, but I was still only going 60kmp/h.
"I don't know how there wasn't an accident as there was some cars already pulled over, but I couldn't see the cars, I only saw their headlights on."

Saskia Elling was also driving along Grampians Road and ran into trouble with the fog.
"A few kilometres outside Halls Gap the fog started and for two-three kilometres you could not see the next reflector on the middle line," she said.
"Visibility was between one and three metres, I'd say.
"It smelled like smoke as well and looked like a mix of smoke and fog.
"I was driving about 10kmp/h and only realised that there was another car in front of me the whole time after the fog lifted.
"One car came my way and I only saw their lights when it was basically next to me, it was quite scary."
Planned burns have been taking place around Stawell and the Grampians National Park as the cooler months approach.
During the end of April and start of May there are planned burns taking place at Mt Difficult State Forrest - Pines Road, Reids Lane, Black Range State Forrest - North Block and Devils Garden State Forest - Devils Garden Road and Deep Lead.
As part of the burns Forrest Fire Management Victoria said "road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility associated with smoke" and "signs may be in place to slow traffic".
