Police have arrested a elderly Stawell man after he was allegedly found in possession of significant amounts of methamphetamine.

An Ararat police spokesperson said officers intercepted the 73 year-old Stawell driver on the Western Highway in Ararat on Thursday evening after a member of the public notified police of the vehicle's erratic driving.
The man has been charged with trafficking drug of dependence and was remanded to appear at the Horsham's Magistrates Court.

Detective Senior Constable Mal Wineberg said after intercepting the vehicle police searched car and allegedly found about 30 grams of methamphetamine.
The accused was then arrested and as a result, a search warrant was executed at his home.
Police allege they then located further illicit drugs at this property.

The arrest comes after an Ararat man was arrested in Stawell in the early hours of Friday morning.
Stawell police intercepted the man as he was driving on Patrick Street at 1.20am, where officers allegedly uncovered drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, as well as a significant amount of cash in the vehicle.
The man was charged with a number of drugs-related charges including allegedly trafficking and possession of amphetamine.
The accused was remanded into custody to face the Ararat Magistrates' Court.
