Stawell Police has impounded a car after a motorist was caught driving an unregistered vehicle with a child in the car.

Police intercepted a 29 year-old female driver at around 10:30am on Sunday, February 14 on Wimmera Street in Stawell.
Upon inspection the Police found the vehicle was unregistered and impounded the vehicle on the spot for a month.
The female driver was also found without a valid driver's license.

Acting Senior Sergeant Eddie Malpas said talks with the community and the commencement of a public survey had resulted in the impound.
"This impound is as a result of information provided to police by concerned locals which resulted in an unlicensed driver being taken off the road," he said.
"We were out on Main Street recently speaking to members of the public.

"What was a pleasing theme throughout the various interactions was the overall attitude and willingness of our community to work with police by reporting suspicious behaviour or information regarding offending.
"I thank the members of the community who have come forward to police with information about a number of issues recently.
"The concerns of the public have been acted upon swiftly with notable results.
