Stawell Town Hall's landmark clock tower will be heard less from now on after the Northern Grampians Shire Council decided to reduce the amount of times the clock will ring during the day.

Usually the clock tower rings on the on the hour, every hour between 6am and 11pm each day; however, the window of chimes will be reduced by three hours, to 8am to 10pm.
Council received feedback from the community that the previous bell schedule was "inappropriate" and needed to be changed.
Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Murray Emerson said the new time schedule for the bells is better suited to our changes in lifestyle.

"The new schedule for the bells reflects that more people are working from home and will accommodate visitors to our region looking for a relaxing break," he said.
"With these considerations in mind, it made sense to ensure people's quiet enjoyment of the township of Stawell was not disturbed early in the morning or late at night."
Special provisions will be made on days of remembrance for the bells to ring and the last post to be played from the clock tower at dawn to commemorate our fallen soldiers.
Stawell's landmark clock tower was constructed in 1939 and demonstrates original design qualities of interwar Art Deco style.
