Victoria Police are appealing for information regarding a suspicious car fire on the Western Highway at St Helens Plains during the weekend.

Detective Senior Constable David Richardson of the Horsham Criminal Investigation Unit said the incident is believed to have taken place on Saturday night.
"At around 7.30 pm, a white 2018 Mitsubishi Triton 4WD ute broke down near the intersection of the Western Highway and Ross Road," Det Sen Const Richardson said.

"The vehicle was left by the owner at approximately 9pm, after attempts to repair the vehicle.
"At approximately 10.40pm, a passing motorist has observed the vehicle on fire and contacted emergency services.
"Upon attendance by emergency services, the vehicle was found to have numerous body parts stolen off and from the vehicle."
Det Sen Const Richardson said police are appealing for assistance from the public regarding the fire or for drivers who may have travelled along the Western Highway between 9-10.40 pm.
"We'd like dashcam footage of any kind," Det Sen Const Richardson said.
"It could be from someone travelling along the Highway on the way to or from Horsham; anything out of the ordinary could kick off this investigation."
