Police arrived at a property in Glenorchy at around 8am after receiving a report that a man was acting erratically.
Police said their presence prompted the man, who was allegedly armed with a knife and an axe, to run into a shed on the property where he remained until just after midday.
Police said the man later came out of the shed without incident after extra police resources arrived.
The man was arrested and conveyed to the Wimmera Base Hospital for assessment.
