The message comes after a women was airlifted from Mt Stapylton on Friday evening.

Branch deputy controller Brody Stewart said a person needed assistance while walking in the Grampians.

"The incident was upgraded and services from Fire Rescue Victoria and CFA were called in," he said.

"Both hikers were airlifted out so one wasn't left to return down the mountain alone."

Mr Stewart took the opportunity to remind residents as the weather was warming up and more people were getting out walkers and hikers need to make sure they are prepared before heading off to explore the National Park.

"This includes plenty of water, food and making sure you have a fully charged mobile phone," he said.

"It's also important to tell someone else where you are going.

"The emergency makers play a vital role for emergency services. They are located all the way through the park so I encourage everyone to pay attention to them and try to remember the last one which was past.

"Even if it was passed 10 minutes before hand they are extremely helpful in working out where someone might be if they need assistance."

Mr Stewart said during COVID-19 restrictions the emergency service crew had taken a break from face-to-face skills maintenance and training to focus only on responding to emergencies.

"From this week, you might see us back out undertaking training in small groups to ensure we have the essential skills and capability required to respond to an emergency," he said.

"Emergency services as a permitted industry are able to conduct critical training and exercising under the directions, as endorsed by the Victorian Chief Health Officer.
