Transport Minister Ben Carroll was made aware of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption probe on Wednesday night and immediately told the V/Line board to stand down chief executive James Pinder.

Nick Foa, the head of Transport Services at the Department of Transport, has been installed as acting CEO while a long-term arrangement is sought.

The state government has assured customers that V/Line services will continue to operate as scheduled.

When queried in his daily press conference, Premier Daniel Andrews said it was "not appropriate" for him to comment further.

"I make no judgements about it," he told reporters.

"All I can do is refer you to whatever language Minister Carroll has used.

"He will have been as frank as he can be without interfering with the work that IBAC has done.

"If there is any further information we can get to you, of course, we will.

"IBAC will do their work and we'll let them get on with that."

Last month, V/Line recorded one of its most punctual months on record on the Ballarat line as capacity of trains drops more than 90 per cent since the advent of stage three and four restrictions.
