Staying at home and following social distancing recommendations has not stopped a group of elderly residents in Stawell from catching up.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the energetic band of older Stawell residents would meet once a week as part of the Grampians Community Health social support group.
"Each Wednesday night we would catch up for dinner and a chat," Stawell's Dot Tangey said.
"But all of that changed once coronavirus came in."
Confined to her house since February, Mrs Tangey said she initially thought she would be the last thing on anyone's mind.
"You would think you would be forgotten about, but not with Grampians Community Health; they are wonderful," she said.
"Initially, we received a care package, with things to do during the shutdown.
"They ring at least twice a week and recently we have set-up Microsoft teams video conference."
Using the program's video conferencing, the aged care group now catch up on a weekly basis using their phone, home computer or tablet.
"I was apprehensive at first - I don't like seeing myself on screen. But after your first time you forget all about that and just start chatting away," she said.
"In the video chats, we catch up like we would in a face-to-face meeting.
"It has been great to see my friends"
Grampians Community Health direct support program leader Laetitia Blake said she was proud to work with the elderly to make their lives better.
"We've been inventive. The virtual meetings have been well received," Ms Blake said.
"We have even been able to assist some clients take part by purchasing a laptop, mobile phone or tablet."
Ms Blake said thinking outside the box is part of working in such a dynamic organisation.
"Our main goal is to link our clients with the best possible services available to them within their budget."
