More than 40 budding dancers took to the dance floor in the first session, to learn basic moves which could become their hidden talent.
Committee member Rhonda Walters said it was a simple idea and a bit of "fun" for all.
"We thought it would be something different, a bit of exercise and of course, a lot of fun," she said.
"We hope people get one or two moves out of the course they can take away with them.
"We're very thankful for Geoff Cooney's support and agreeing to facilitate the evenings."
Mrs Walters is a former ballroom dance and said she loved dancing because of the music.
"Everyone is so lovely on the circuit as well," she said.
The eight week class can be joined at any time with basic 50's and 60's rock and roll dancing being taught.
Classes are hosted at Stawell Senior Citizen hall on Victoria Street at 7.30pm on Thursdays.
