Northern Grampians Shire Council is closing a section of the intersection for 17 days as they work to upgrade the roundabout.
Motorists will also not be able to turn left at the intersection from Wimmera Street from either direction on Thursday January 30, while boring takes place.
In a statement on Friday, the council said contractors due to commence the first stage of the beautification works on the 28th.
"The new roundabout will include garden beds and a platform for interchangeable artworks to be exhibited on a temporary basis, allowing different artists a chance to display their works in a public space," it said.
"The first part of the upgrade will include supplying water and power to the centre of the roundabout and perimeter edging will be constructed for the garden beds.
"This initial work is scheduled to be completed by the Easter break and partial road closures will be in place starting just after the Australia Day long weekend."
The council said there would be detours and traffic management in place.
Mayor Murray Emerson said: "The initial idea was for council to make it into an art area. Over a period of time the community decided, through consultation with council, it would be better if we continued the theme throughout the shire where we have more greenery than artwork. That's the direction we're having now.
"I think the community has suggested to us they don't want something that's to high when they come around that could block their view. I spoke to shop owners surrounding the roundabout and they said artistry was not what they thought was the way to go."
Cr Emerson said with the upgrades, the council was trying to make sure the southern part of main street stayed connected to the activity of the part north of the roundabout.
"The project hasn't been handled that well by us. It has taken us a long time to get to where the community wants us to be," he said.
Cr Emerson said the works would cost around $70,000. In 2018, the council received $800,000 from the federal government to put towards the Stawell CBD revitalisation project.
