NHILL Police have caught a P-plater travelling 54km/h over the speed limit on the Western Highway.

A police spokesperson said the incident happened about 10.30am on Friday near Nhill when police intercepted a Thomastown man, 19, travelling at 154km/h in a 100km/h zone.
"He will be charged with exceeding the posted speed limit and failing to display P plates," the spokesperson said.
Victoria Police's Operation Roadwise started on Friday and will run until January 5. A total of 253 people have died on the state's roads this year.
