The school was officially opened in 1979, John Medwell appointed the first principal of the new primary school in Ararat.

In the early 1970s, every child living in Ararat North had to cross the Adelaide highway and Adelaide Railway line to attend school in Ararat.

A group of parents gathered and lobbied the government during an election year and were granted a new school in Ararat North.

Just under 200 students attended the school in its first year.

In 2019, Ararat North Primary had 47 students enrolled.

Mr Elliss said the upcoming celebration of the school and its achievements from the past 40 years will commence at 4.30pm on December 13.

"We're excited to celebrate 40 years of serving the Ararat community, looking after a significant amount of children in the town," he said.

"The hallmark of this school is around genuine levels of strong academic success and growth of each individual child. It's our primary focus on learning as individuals and providing a really safe and family-focused environment."

Mr Elliss said there were a number of parents involved at the school who have children at the school.

"There are families in the area who have had a very long history with the school," he said.

"The process of the celebration has allowed people from the region to talk about their history with the school."

Mr Elliss said hard work was being done behind the scenes to pay tribute to the history of the school in various forms.

"A fantastic historical display which will be showcased at the event," he said.

"We're also releasing a 40th-year community cookbook.

"Students, parents, teachers and the school community have submitted recipes which are tried and true in the home.

"The recipes are ones we think would work well with kids so families can enjoy the process of making food for each other. The book will also have historical photos of both the past and present."
