POLICE are appealing to the public for information in relation to a driver who ignored police when they directed them to stop.

Sergeant Silas Stephens of Stawell said about 7.40pm Thursday police directed a silver Commodore sedan to stop on Colquhoun and Napier streets.
"The driver failed to stop on police direction in the Colquhoun and Napier Street area in relation to its driving," he said.
"We're calling for any witnesses to contact Stawell police or Crime Stoppers."

Over in Ararat police are also calling for witnesses following an assault on Barkly Street Tuesday afternoon.
Constable Nathan Dunn said an assault occurred between a male and a female around 4pm.
"Anyone with information regarding the assault is encouraged to phone Constable Nathan Dunn at the Ararat police station on 5355 1500," he said.
