The signs are there for a bumper season once again so don't get all down just yet if you haven't been able to get tight on something decent.

Offshore: The snapper and gummy shark fishing has been really good again this week with plenty of anglers making the most of some decent offshore conditions.

One of those anglers was gun female fisherwoman Lisa Davies who gave Joey Bourke a lesson on the snapper on Sunday while fishing off Port Fairy where they landed some nice snapper and gummy shark.

Pilchards and squid were the best baits on this day while anchoring on some broken ground. Anthony "Stretch" Smith fished with Peter Goode on Monday for a great bag of Snapper and Gummy Shark also which seems to be the norm recently for those who are headed in closer off the coast.

Most reports are still coming from 40-50m of water which is the standard depth for our region for these fish.

The water is warming up for those who go off the temp as a guide to start chasing some of our summer species such as kingfish and the run of school size tuna which come right in over the warmer months.

An abundance of yakka's have made their way inshore which means that the pelagics that feast on these can't be too far behind.

I know of a few guys already getting itchy feet for the summer chasing kings on top water stick baits and sluggos. The big tuna seem to have thinned right out over the past week which might be the last of the epic run of fish that we have seen this last eight months or so.

I don't think anyone can disagree that this has been the best year for big fish that we have seen recently.

Estuaries: The Hopkins River has been fishing very well still for those anglers casting both lures and bait fishing for bream and estuary perch.

Mick Hunt had an session to remember on Sunday casting Atomic Jerk Minnows over the pass at Jubilee where he landed some great estuary perch to 1.2kg.

He also got blown away by multiple fish that were much bigger than this.

Tim Vincent landed his new PB Ep over the weekend with a 46cm model smacking a Jackall Pompadour off the surface which was cast deep into a rocky bank.

He also caught a couple of redfin, which was a surprise capture for some last year and looks to be a common trend now heading into summer.

Those who fish the higher reaches above Jubilee Park are saying that it's only a matter of time until someone lands some bass again, the same as last year.

Most of the action as you can probably tell is coming from the upper reaches and by what most guys are saying it's due to the fish spawning as they have been fat as and the males have been milting when landed.

With this we have to be smart when targeting them as they can be very easy to catch during this time and we have to do our part to look after our fish stocks for years to come.

If you catch a big fish then try to release it so it can reproduce and keep our little system going.

The Glenelg River has again been fishing well for bream and estuary perch throughout the river.

Mick Moore had a great few early morning sessions on top-water lures for estuary perch.

He fished up around Pines Landing using the Berkley 3B Pop Dogs slowly worked along the reedy banks.

Reports coming in of more mulloway from the bottom section around the Poles and Popes nose on live mullet trolled slowly behind the boat.

Bream have been taken on crabs cast tight into the wall for those using bait and have been wide spread from the estuary to the top.

Freshwater: Xavier Ellul landed his PB trout over the weekend in the Merri River casting a hard body lure.

A great late season fish that could see more anglers targeting them after a very slow season due to fast flows and filthy water.

At Richardson Marine this Saturday we will be holding our first Fishing and Boating expo that kicks off at 9am.

There will be some of the new seasons boat models on display for anyone interested from Stabicraft including the brand new 2250 Ultracab.

The TackleShack will also have some new season gear for the South West and will have in store demonstrations.

You can even test your skills on the fishing simulator or get your new Crayfish tags that the fisheries will be issuing on the day.

The Warrnambool Offshore Club will be having a BBQ breakfast and lunch so bring some hungry stomachs along.

Some not so pleasant conditions are on the way this week so fishing might be a little scarce but with the expo on there's still plenty to do.
