Dr Castle recently retired from his position as a trustee of the Stawell Hospital Foundation after 30 years of service. This event was celebrated with an afternoon tea at Macpherson Smith Residential Care and was attended by foundation trustees and members of his family.
Dr Castle started at Stawell Regional Health in 1955 and received a life governorship in 1960. In over 50 years of practicing medicine he has shown great compassion, dedication and kindness to his patients, residents and staff at the hospital.
Clinically, Dr Castle will be recognised for his outstanding medical leadership, commitment to medical services and excellence in the provision of clinical services. In 1994 he was awarded the general practitioner of the year for the Wimmera region and in 1999 received an Order of Australia Medal for services to medicine and the community. In addition to being a serving member of the Stawell Regional Health Foundation Dr Castle served on the hospital board for 28 years.
On the day of his retirement from the foundation, he was presented with a gift to acknowledge his wonderful work and time given to the foundation and thanked for his tireless efforts.
In response Dr Castle stated he had greatly enjoyed his time and involvement with the hospital and expressed his appreciation to the foundation for the acknowledgement made to him. He has given considerable time and energy to the community through his endeavours and Dr Castle's legacy will be enjoyed by all at Stawell Regional Health for many years to come.
