It is the not the first time years Notting has received the honour, but he said it still came as a shock.

"I won in 2016 the seniors Best and Fairest at Great Western ... and a junior one and reserves one, and runners up at Navarre, but that's about it," he said.

When his name was announced Notting said he didn't quite know what to do.

"It actually came as a shock because we've got so many good players this year that it could have gone to anyone," he said.

"I didn't say much, I stuffed my speech up and was pretty nervous. I'm pretty shy at the best of times so it was a big shock getting up in front of everyone."

Notting has been with the Lions for a while.

"I just clocked over 150 games," he said.

He attributed his own on field achievements to the mate ship within the team.

"It's nothing really outstanding (that I've done on field)," he said.

"The good team we have makes it easy, and makes it hard for opponents to man up on you because you've got so many good players coming through.

"There's real strong mate ship out there for sure.

"And it's a family orientated club on and off field.

"Everyone sort of sticks together and it's pretty tight, which makes it easy."

Notting said he will play the 2020 season, with one very special goal in mind.

"I've got my son out there and he's playing, so eventually I want to play with him," he said.

"He's 13 and he is just footy mad.

"I reckon I've probably got another two years and he'll be running around, so hopefully I get to have a game with him.

"That's another goal I want to tick off.

Penshurst coach Justin Eales also collected a medal on Monday night and is hoping to add a second when the Bombers vie for the Mininera and District league premiership on Saturday.

Like Notting, he said it came as quite a "surprise" to him.

Eales won the league's senior football best and fairest award with 25 votes from Tatyoon's David Brady (20) and SMW Rovers' Andrew Toan (19).

Great Western's Andrew Cameron (18), Lismore-Derrinallum's Michael Lockyer (17) and Hawkesdale-Macarthur's Brady Purcell (16) rounded out the top six.

Former Warrnambool footballer Eales will lead the Bombers in Saturday's grand final against Great Western.

Lismore-Derrinallum's Warrick Miller (20) and Moyston-Willaura's Patrick Frawley (16) finished second and third respectively.

Teenager Hamish Wortley did grand final-bound Hawkesdale-Macarthur proud, winning the under 16 best and fairest with 26 votes.

Glenthompson-Dunkeld's Dylan Eats (18) was second with Penshurst's Aaron Glare (17) in third.

Lismore-Derrinallum's Jack Sanders (14) was next best followed by five players on 13 votes.
