Noradjuha and Quantong merged in 1997, and are yet to make a senior football grand final as a united club.

Similarly, fierce rivals Edenhope and Apsley amalgamated in 1999, and have just one grand final appearance to the joint club's name - a heartbreaking 16 point loss to Kalkee in 2012.

Only one side will advance and create history for their club when the two sides battle at Pimpinio on Saturday.

Pre-season, many would not have tipped Noradjuha-Quantong to even make the top six, let alone a preliminary final.

The 'Baby Bombers', spurred on by a talented young core and guided by the likes of veterans Cam Bruce, Tom Cooper, Jason Kerr and Shane Oakley, have taken the competition by storm.

Two massive fourth quarter efforts have propelled the side to victory in their first two finals, benefiting from youthful legs with superior running capacity late in each game.

Bombers coach Gareth Hose said he hoped to keep the momentum rolling, in the club's first finals campaign since 2011.

"Obviously it's been a long time since the club has been in finals, so to win two in a row and get to a prelim, the place is buzzing," Hose said.

Noradjuha-Quantong however hasn't defeated Edenhope-Apsley since round 17, 2015.

Their one match this season was on a brutally cold and wet day at Quantong, where the Bombers led by four points at three quarter time before getting run over in the final term, losing by 33 points.

"It was terrible conditions, so really I can't take too much out of that game at all," Hose said.

"They will be a much better side on a dry day, considering their strengths. They've got some really good marking forwards and talls, with a solid midfield, so they are solid across the board.

"We're going to have to be playing our best football."

With both sides possessing potent forward lines, Hose said the game could be won or lost through the midfield.

"I think the midfield battle will go a long way to determining who wins," he said.

"Our forward line has been functioning quite well.

"Except for inaccurate kicking, we've shown we can score this year. So whoever can get on top through the midfield, and provide opportunities to the forwards, will go a long way to deciding which team wins."

Hose said after exceeding expectations this season, the pressure was off his young side.

While Noradjuha-Quantong have come from the clouds, Edenhope-Apsley have been one of the strongest sides right from round one, building upon their preliminary final appearance in 2018.

The Saints have only improved across the season and have lost just two of their last 10 matches - both against league powerhouse Harrow-Balmoral.

Saints coach Chris Oliver said his side were confident, despite their heavy qualifying final loss last weekend.

"We're definitely confident coming into this week," Oliver said.

"We're expecting Noradj to throw everything at us. We haven't seen the best of them. When we played it was pretty wet, so it's going to be an interesting match-up.

"They remind me a lot of us last year. They're a young side, really pushing, really eager, really keen, so I think they are going to push us."

While familiar faces like Oliver, key defender Matt Butler, and reigning best and fairest Jak Ryan have been key to the Saints this season, the emergence of three youngsters has also been a major boost.

Young midfielder Lachlan Middleton has taken his game to the next level, adding size and becoming one of the competition's premier contested ball winners.

Long-haired livewire Billy Finnigan has made a seamless transition into the seniors from the under-17s, giving the Saints some added buzz, while returning key forward George Walker has been clunking marks at will, booting 40 goals across his 13 games.

Oliver said the club had a clear goal to make a grand final.

"Right from the start of the year that was the plan. We wanted to at least improve on last year," he said.

"We definitely have the side to do it, we just want to make sure we come to play this week."
