President Harry Elliott said it was increasingly difficult to recruit players due to the lengthy travel time involved.
"We're going to Ararat and Great Western - you're talking an hour and 20 minutes to Ararat from Hawkesdale and another 15 to 20 minutes from Macarthur," Elliott said.
"It was bad enough with Tatyoon, but we're going even further afield now.
"It makes it difficult to get players."
Elliott said there were a number of people who had switched to clubs in the Warrnambool and District league for this reason.
"We have locals that play down in the Warrnambool district and Hampden leagues because of it," Elliott said. In addition to that, a suggestion that Smythesdale might join the league earlier this year, made recruiting difficult.
"That spooked a lot of our recruits," Elliott said.
"Smythesdale would be probably two hours for us."
Elliott said while the club had been able to field teams in each match this year, it had been a challenge.
"We don't know until the day whether we've got a full side or not."
Elliott said he believed the club needed to discuss the possibility of exiting the league.
"I wouldn't mind going to the Warrnambool league," he said.
Hawkesdale-Macarthur is hosting a reunion for its 1979, 2008 and 2009 reserves premierships teams at its home match against Great Western on Saturday.
Elliott invited past players to attend the event, which kicks off at noon.
