Ten people attended the meeting and spoke about their desire to bring grassroots basketball back to Stawell.
On of the initiators, Matt Bourke said it was a positive outcome after many years of trying to get a committee together.
"We had some apologies on Monday night, so for ten people to turn up with those apologies means there is interest out there," he said.
"We are still needing to fill the secretary and treasurer roles - but we're confident some people will come forward.
"At the meeting, we had the support from the previous treasurer, Andrea Morrow, who attended and said she was willing to help mentor anyone who wants to take on the role."
Bourke said he hoped people will come on board after the meeting, and realise there is a need for the club to form once again.
"It's a pathway through the sport for children in the area. They need to have somewhere to take their basketball if they want to continue playing," he said.
"We've had some interest in the coaching roles as well - it's all coming together and it's positive.
"We just really need those couple of extra committee members."
Bourke said the coaching roles would be discussed at the next meeting, August 5 at 6pm.
"Once we fill the final roles of the committee we will then look at the coaching roles," he said.
"At this early stage, we have had interest in the men's coaching role and junior girls.
"We will be looking at the possibility of other teams as well.
"We're hoping to build a contact base through competitions at Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre to grow members for the club."
Tryouts for the basketball teams will be hosted after the announcement of coaches.
