Taking on Warrnambool Blues at Hamilton, Stawell made a strong start to the game, keeping their opponents goalless in the first term to lead by three points at quarter-time.
It was tough going from there though, with the Blues finishing with 18 scoring shots to advance to the preliminary finals with a 4.14 (38) to 3.0 (18) victory.
Tahlia Barnett and Crystal Summers were Stawell's best players in the loss.
The Blues will play Horsham Demons in next weekend's preliminary final, with the winner to take on South Warrnambool in the grand final the week after.
Despite the loss, this year has been Stawell's most successful since establishment in 2017, winning seven games.
The team was able to overcome short numbers earlier in the season to put together a strong campaign.
