The information session will be held at the Stawell Town Hall from 5.30pm-7.30pm on July 29.
Swinburne University professor Jeremy Mould will deliver an update on the status of the project on the night.
The lab will be home to the Sodium Iodide with Active Background Rejection Experiment (SABRE), the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The lab will be built one kilometre underground at the Stawell Gold Mine in an effort to delve into the mysteries of dark matter.
"We hope to see as many community members at the session as possible to see where the project is up to, and to see what it can do for Stawell, and in particular, the young people of Stawell," Northern Grampians Shire Council mayor Kevin Erwin said.
Scientists involved with the project hope to see work commence soon after the federal government allocated $5 million to the project in the budget released earlier this year.
