With a speciality made bookcase from Stawell Men's Shed, the library will be placing books on rotation at the Stawell Neighbourhood House for people to read.

Stawell Library officer Seppe Illig the idea came to her after she attended training.

"The idea is streamlined to attract kids of all ages up to young adults," she said.

"We are trying to target that age group to encourage literacy and to provide a form of respite to their everyday lives.

"There are many studies around the use of electronics and reading can provide another avenue for entertainment for that generation."

Mrs Illig said there wasn't anything available like this initiative at the Neighbourhood House before.

"The initiative is about providing the opportunity for people to maybe pick up a book rather than play on their phones," she said.

"We're trying to provide a range of material of fiction and non-fiction and have a mixture of what people might like to read."

Mrs Illig said she hoped reading could help some adolescence "escape" from everyday stress in life.

"We know some younger residents in the community are more at risk and these are some of the people we will try and target," she said.

"It's to help them get themselves immersed into a book and even if it's for five or ten minutes block out the stress of everyday life.

"The idea is very simple, I hope it can help some people."
