Goodes returns to his junior club to honour his close friend Darren Jones, who will play his 250^th senior game for Dimboola in the clash against Nhill.

Goodes said he was looking forward to the day.

"It will be great to play alongside him - Jonesy and I are good mates, we went to school together and played a lot of footy together from my days back at Dimboola," he said.

"I haven't been back (to Dimboola) since my VFL/AFL career, and we had spoken about playing a game together again at some stage.

"My footy days are getting shorter and shorter as we speak, so we thought if we don't get it done now it might not happen.

"It has just worked well being his milestone game."

In addition to Goodes, Karl Lohde and former Dimboola coach Shannon Keam will also return for Jones' milestone match. Two-time Toohey medalist Peter McFarlane was also set to return, but an untimely calf injury will keep him on the sidelines.

Jones, 34, said it would be exciting to play alongside his close friends.

"We did the Kokoda Track together on Anzac day. We decided we were all getting a bit older and just floated the idea of all playing a game together at some stage," Jones said.

"When you get a bit older, those are the kind of things you value, because that's what footy is about - mateship and camaraderie.

"Obviously we've all been at Dimboola before and the club informed me I'd be playing my 250^th at some stage this year. So we had a look at that and thought it'd be a good opportunity."

Goodes said it would be exciting to play for his junior club once more.

"The last time I actually played as a club player was when I was 16," he said. "I came back probably once or twice when I was playing VFL too.

"It's always good to go back to a club where you played juniors and gave you so much as a young fella."

Despite the occasion, Jones said he had just one goal for the day.

"I just want to sing the song," he said.

"I'm a pretty humble, pretty shy guy, so it's not about me. I just want to do what is right by the team."
