The P-plater was driving along the Wimmera Highway at St Arnaud when police saw the car travelling at 161 kilometres an hour.
"Speed was a big concern for us over the weekend," St Arnaud Sergeant Bill Alford said.
"We stopped eight drivers travelling at speeds of 118 to 161kmh over the weekend on Banyena Road and Wimmera Highway.
"I think eight is getting a bit high."
Sergeant Alford said the Bendigo man's vehicle was registered in his father's name.
"The driver will be summonsed to appear before the St Arnaud court at a later date," he said.
