It is a huge effort for the town, which boasts a population of around 530.

Fundraising efforts centered around a fish and chip luncheon and games afternoon.

One of the organisers, Heather Fleming, said the effort formed part of an ongoing tradition in the town.

"The small community of Willaura has supported the Good Friday Appeal for more than 30 years, and the tradition continues to gather strength each year," she said.

"The morning started early for the volunteers who set up equipment and prepared for a very busy few hours.

"At the luncheon over 320 meals were served, and the freshly cooked fish and chips were appreciated by the large crowd."

Locals and visitors alike enjoyed all on offer, and the warm autumn sunshine was a bonus.

Activities such as pony rides, face painting, lucky dips, a jumping castle and the little train delighted children, as did the arrival of the Easter Bunny.

The lucky spinning wheel was popular and the prizes so generously donated by local businesses were eagerly snapped up.

The firewood auction was also keenly contested, and with cooler nights approaching there was spirited bidding for each of the 8 loads.

"Major Raffle winners on the day were K. Evans and V. Platen," Ms Fleming said.

"Organizers were grateful to the over 60 volunteers who helped out on the day, and to the donors of spinning wheel prizes, wood, and food."

The next major event for Willaura will be its Anzac Day ceremonies, which will begin with a dawn service at the cenotaph at 6am, followed by a second service at 9am with a Stand To, also at the cenotaph.

This will be immediately followed by a march to the Memorial Hall for the commemorative service.
