The Warriors fell away in the second quarter which was the undoing for the team, defeated 61 to 48.
It was a tight tussle in the first quarter with Stawell trailing by just one at quarter time.
The second quarter was dominated by the Giants, putting 19 goals to eight on the scoreboard leaving a tall ask for the Warriors.
Co-coach Tracey Dark said the team let some of the intensity go in that time.
"There were parts of the quarter where we really stuck at it," she said.
"It was probably the placement of our passes and not thinking about the height of their players and using it to our advantage a bit more.
"They had two very tall players at either end of the court which proved tough for the girls.
"We know we are going to come up against this in most of our games and it's something we need to work our game plan around.
"We have our advantages which we need to use."
Courtney McIlvride and Melanie Dent both played in their first official senior A Grade games.
"Both girls have played up from juniors to seniors but this was the first game for them as an official senior player and played extremely well," she said.
The Warriors were able to win the third quarter and lost the fourth term by two goals.
"I was really proud of how the team applied themselves and had some really good passages of play," Dark said.
"It's about maintaining those really good moments for longer periods and being consistent which is something we will continue to work on at training."
