Stawell Primary School students donned orange accessories to commemorate the day of inclusion.
"The day is about highlighting our values of inclusion and respect - no matter who you are or where you come from," Stawell Primary principal Robyn Jones said.
"As more and more people from different cultures arrive in Stawell we are becoming a more diverse school which is fantastic.
"Harmony Day is a chance to celebrate that."
The school had the motto of "we all may be different fish but in this school we all swim together" for the day.
To celebrate that motto, students decorated fish which will be displayed along the corridors in the school.
Stawell Secondary College also commemorated the occasion.
"We had a ceremony where our student leaders spoke fantastically," VCE coordinator Millie Francis said.
"Part of the ceremony we asked the students to spread petals on flowers that had been laid - more than half the school got up to do that.
"It was great to see a lot of genuine respect shown.
"It was important to show our school values of respect for community and excellence given what has been happening in the world in recent weeks."
Stawell Neighbourhood House also got among the celebrations on Thursday, hosting a busy community lunch.
