The announcement allows the newly formed club to play competitively, in a league, for the 2019 season.
Club president Jason Oosthuizen said the South West League is smaller than other leagues which could have been a consideration.
"We think it is a better opportunity for a newly established club to participate," he said.
"There are three Warrnambool sides so we will predominantly playing there - but will need to travel to Hamilton and Corangamite.
"It is only a six-team league."
Mr Oosthuizen said the committee looked into joining a league in Ballarat - but logistically it was going to be difficult.

"Our juniors weren't going to be able to play at the same venue and sometimes on the same day," he said.
"The cost was going to be more as well."
Mr Oosthuizen said the Pioneers will be playing teams within the league three times.
"It will be good for us to join in with other like-minded clubs - hopefully we can learn from them."
Committee members have been meeting once a month ticking off boxes, gaining sponsorship and working on the finishing touches before the season begins.
"The fixture will be released on April 1, so we will be taking registrations from this week," Mr Oosthuizen said.
"We already have had a few sponsors jump on board and have a number of players already expressed interest in playing in both seniors and juniors.
"This week we will have our official registration portal open and players can officially align themselves with the Pioneers."
On the field, players have trained over summer and have made big in-roads in securing players for the season.
"We have worked with the Northern Grampians Shire Council and secured the middle of the athletic track at North Park as our ground," Mr Oosthuizen said.
"We are hoping to get 20 registered players for an 11 player team and 12 junior players' names down for the nine players minimum needed to fill a side.
"We haven't done a big recruitment drive so we are hoping to get a few coming out of the woodwork."
