Aradale welcomed the Stawell side in an important game for both sides.
Neil Coates was in for his first match as skipper and performed well with a good victory.
Andrew Sharp had a close win against Spud McCarthy, but it was Andrew Cray who was on top for most of the day, getting all the points for the visitors and shifting them to the top of the ladder.
Aradale have dropped to sixth and will need to win the last two games well and rely on other matches to have any chance of sneaking into the finals.
Ararat played Chalambar on the Ararat Green and were giving themself a chance of getting a win.
But with a couple of retired champions helping out in Grant Seeary and Chris Young the visitors got all the points on the day.
Lake Bolac is a tough road trip, and Ararat VRI found this out on Saturday. Ian Park and Mal Curnow had great wins for Bolac, with Mark Griffith getting some points for the visitors.
This keeps the Bolac side in the picture for a finals match, but needing to defeat Chally and Stawell over the next two weeks the odds are not with them.
Landsborough welcomed Stawell Golf and were once again very competitive. Greg Reading and Dave Kaczynski had good wins, with Brian Adamson winning a close one over Gerry parry to ensure Golf got all the points.
Division 2
Stawell Blue, at home, were too good for the visiting Lake Bolac Red side with Ellen Weary having the best win on the day.
The other two rinks were a lot closer, with Stawell Blue getting all the points.
Laurie Tonkin, Bruce Gill and Graeme Robinson had great wins for Ararat Gold over the visiting Lake Bolac Black combination, securing their position in the top four of the ladder for now.
In a bit of a surprise result, Ararat VRI failed to win a rink at home against the visiting Stawell Gold side.
Terry Griffin was in great touch on the day and Stawell managed to get the points on the other two rinks.
In another important match between Aradale and Ararat Green at Aradale, it was the visiting side who got the points.
Greg Day and David Coone were in good touch to set up the win.
The Green machine is now two points outside the top four and right in the mix for finals.
In the last match, the two Stawell Golf sides clashed with the gold side reversing the result from earlier in the year with a massive win.
Ray Scobie was the main destroyer, recording a comprehensive win over Ross Dobson by 29 shots.
