After the under-15s came away with a defeat in round two on Wednesday in nail biting fashion, they again went down but this time it was to the in form Gisborne Green.
For the second time the under-15s put up a competitive total when they made 8-113, with Bailey Hosemans top scoring with 43.
However, Gisborne Green were too strong making 6-165.
Grampians Cricket Association junior co-coordinator Jason Hosemans said that he was pleased with the fielding efforts shown by the under-15s.
“We fielded much better than we had in the previous game,” he said.
“We were keeping it reasonably tight, especially in the middle of the innings we restricted their run flow quite a lot. But they ended being a bit too strong for us.”
In the under-13s, they too suffered a huge defeat going down to Gisborne Green.
The under-13s won the toss and sent in Gisborne Green who then capitilised making 5-230.
Gisborne Green then proved too difficult to handle with the ball, bowling Grampians out for 56.
Both teams regrouped on Friday in a modified version of the tournament due to the heat, where both sides played a twenty20 instead of the 40 over format.
Both teams won which was a good sign as it showed that their hard work was paying off for the week.
The under-13s were sent in by Castlemaine, and they made dividends as they finished their innings on 5-123 with Andrew Wills top scoring with 20.
A good bowling display by the Grampians meant that Gisborne could only master 5-90.
Hosemans said it was a good team performance.
“It was a good spread of batsman and good spread of bowlers,” he said. “They (Grampians) restricted them well, fielded well and batted well, it was a good team effort by them.”
In the under-15s they played Castlemaine and after winning the toss they sent them into bat first. The bowling was red hot as Castlemaine made 6-107.
Bailey Hosemans (69 not out), Dalkin (22 runs) and Lachlan Wills (17runs) all provided decent knocks to help Grampians reach the total.
Hosemans said that the whole week was beneficial to the kids especially if they are willing to take that extra step.
“It is a great event and the boys really get a lot out of it, just playing good competitive cricket,” he said.
