A highlight of the event saw long-standing member John Brown awarded a life membership of the club.
Brown joined the Ararat Rifle Club in 1963 at a young age and has continued to be an active member since.
Brown served as club president for many years, and always contributes at a high level in all club activities.
Steve McKrell performed well at the Christmas shoot to take out top honours at the Ararat Rifle Club.
With unpredictable winds prevailing, McKrell fired an accurate possible 50 score using his well-tuned F Class rifle.
The Christmas shoot comprised of a ‘nominate your own handicap’ 10 shot event on the 300 yard range.
When nominating your own handicap competitors need to choose wisely as you lose two points for every one you go over the possible score.
One of the highlights was Melissa Perry who also fired a possible 50 score - her first at the Ararat range. This is a solid result for the new club member and Perry is certainly destined to shake things up amongst the more experienced shooters.
Mark Pilgrim also performed very well achieving a scratch score of 50 points.
Many shooters achieved high scores on the day but some were penalised due to their heavy handicaps.
The next event will be a 600 yard 10 shot competition on January 26, with the trophy donated by Garry Keith.
