Senior Constable Julie Morris taught the course at the Ararat Harness Racing Club, where Ararat Rural City Council had painted a bicycle course and installed signs made by AME Systems.
As a congratulations Ararat police donated two brand new bicycles to course participants.
One went to Lindsey Stacey, a prep student at Buangor Primary School, who got to pick out her own bright pink bicycle.
A second bicycle went to the students at Maroona Primary School which they will share and use for further lessons.
Sergeant Shane Allgood, of Ararat, said the course and gifting the bikes was an opportunity to help the kids out.
“We try to do it before the Christmas holidays to keep the kids safer,” he said.
The program was funded through the Ararat branch of Blue Light Victoria, which provides programs and activities to children designed to keep them safe and teach them life skills.
“If we’ve got money through Ararat Blue Light we pick out two students to get a new bike,” Sergeant Allgood said.
“This year we’re giving one to individuals and one to a school.
“It gives us an opportunity to make all the kids as happy as possible.”
