Organised by the Disability Accommodation Services office in Stawell, and supported by volunteers from the Stawell Yacht Club, the sailability event was held at Lake Fyans in warm, but windy conditions.
The sailability program is a worldwide not-or-profit, volunteer-based organisation which, through the activity of sailing, enriches the lives of people with any type of disability, the elderly and the financially and socially disadvantaged.
This time, DAS residents from a number of the Stawell homes were in attendance.
The program enriches the lives of people through the activity of sailing
Some of the participants had not sailed before, so it was wonderful to share the great activity with such a receptive group.
As the wind picked up during the day though the sailing activity had to be curtailed, so participants were taken for a power boat ride to give all a chance to experience some time on Lake Fyans.
The next sailability event will be held in early February 2019. If people are interested in being involved on the day or would like more information they can contact Stawell Yacht Club members Tony Hillier on 5352 5760 or Roger Spratt on 5354 2787.
