Activities were forced inside due to strong winds, but that did not dampen the spirit of everyone in attendance.
Live music, face painting and various other activities set an energetic and celebratory scene at Stawell for the occasion.
“Community groups like the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly, Parks Victoria, Ararat Party Hire, Riding for the Disabled, Ararat Neighbourhood House, Disability Advocacy Group, NDIS, Greenfingers, Stawell Men’s Shed, Rural Access and Northern Grampians Shire all helped to make for a massive day,” Stawell Neighbourhood House coordinator Lisa Arnfield said.
“We also had live music from the Skene Street School choir as well as Ararat Pinnacle’s Josh who was just amazing.”
Ms Arnfield said the day was a great celebration.
“We have had a shift in society where people with disabilities are embraced and acknowledged rather than pushed aside and the day was all about celebrating that,” she said.
“There is more acceptance of people with disabilities now so the day was all about celebrating people of all abilities and showcasing what people with disabilities provide to the community.
“It is clearly an area we have broken a lot of ground on in our community.”
