They met up with some locals and historians, visiting Seppelts and lunching at the Great Western Hotel.
Robin and Dale Blampied, along with Dale’s wife Lynn, enjoyed the history provided, having found out much more than they had ever known.
So they set about establishing St Peters vineyard around 1863 along the banks of the Concongella Creek – the first vineyard established in Great Western.
In the late 1850s, Jean Pierre Trouette and his brother in law, Emile Blampied arrived at Great Western and soon realised the similarity of the area to that of the wine growing areas of their native France.

Their vineyards were famous, winning many prizes at local, state and international shows and exhibitions.
Sadly, in 1896 this famous vineyard passed out of their hands, floods having decimated the property and co-partner Jean Pierre Trouette and his son Nicholas both having died.
Emile Blampied, his wife and 11 of their 12 children moved to Nhill.
Today, nothing remains of the once thriving vineyards and orchards and little is known about the families or St Peters.
