At the conclusion of day one in round four, Pomonal managed to make 8-235 at Alexandra Oval – batting for the first time on a turf wicket.
Buangor-Tatyoon won the toss and sent Pomonal in to bat.
Buangor-Tatyoon Michael Harricks said the team thought that there might have been a bit of movement in the turf wicket.
“It played pretty firm on top and played really well for the day. Pomonal batted well too,” he said.
Harricks claimed four wickets on the day and Zander McDougall was able to collect two.
“Zander opened the bowling and then changed over the spin and managed to get some wickets with his spinners. He bowled quite well,” he said.
Harricks said it was disappointing they weren’t able to get the batsmen out earlier.
“We dropped four catches early with the openers. A tea they hadn’t got away from us and we managed to get some quick wickets after tea,” he said.
“Lynden Brewis and Matt Peel batted really smart and knocked around a heap of singles and were able to do the damage on the board.”
Brewis added a half-century to his career making 52 runs before being caught and bowled by Harricks.
Peel didn’t quite get to raise the bat, just falling short with 91 runs not out.
In other matches across the association, Youth Club stepped out onto Central Park, Stawell, for the first time this season.
The Clubbers were up against Arardale – who won the toss and elected to send the home team in first.
Captain Nic Baird said it was a choice he was happy with as it was in their game plan if they were able to win the toss.
“I was always looking to have a bat. The wicket seemed flat and hard going into the match,” he said.
The Clubbers were all out for 296 off 63.2 overs.
Baird was the standout, scoring 196.
Baird said he set the team a goal at the start of the day for a 100 run partnership and another 50 runs somewhere.
“If we got 150 runs between three people, 200-250 would be a pretty handy total. Getting towards the 300 was a massive effort for the team,” he said.
Arardale batted for 16 overs and sit on 4-41 going into next weekend.
Swifts-Great Western played host to St Andrews at Great Western in their opening day of round four.
The Combine were all out for 190 off 66.4 overs.
St Andrews batted for 13 overs to finish off the day and at stumps were 3-23.
