More than 100 cyclists from all over the state gathered at Ararat on Saturday for the 2018 Ararat Track Cycling Carnival.

Conditions were ideal for racing as cyclists from as far as Mt Gambier, Hamilton and Melbourne competed.
Ararat and District Cycling Club president Bruce Hamilton said the event was “great:.
“It went really well. There was a high standard of racing and from what I can gather everyone enjoyed themselves,” he said.
“Ararat has the abilitiy to run a high standard of racing and all the volunteers chip in for a day without incident.
“As a club we try and encourage people to come up from Melbourne and compete against the best bike riders from the country, because we’ve got some very good ones.”
Greg Hogan was a big winner on the day, taking out the scratch race.
“Greg has been a club member for a long time so it was great to see him win,” Hamilton said.
With racing products such as Shane Kelly, Lucas Hamilton and Alice Culling coming from Ararat, the annual ride provides a strong platform for up and coming cyclists to get into the sport.
“The club is always looking for new members and we have plenty of people who can give advice from a racing point of view or even people who just want to learn to ride,” Hamilton said.
