The town’s first ever VWA was the brainchild of Steph Carroll, who will serve as the inaugural Landsborough CWA president.
“I got interested in the idea of CWA when talking to a friend from Aireys Inlet. She is a young mum like myself and found it was a great way to connect with the local community which is something I wanted to do,” she said.
“From hearing about her time with the CWA she talked about how it brings about community and meeting up to fundraise for social issues.
“We had a ladies catering group in Landsborough but a CWA seemed like a great way to share a variety of talents people have in the town.”
The group held its first annual general meeting on October 31, with about 20 people in the first meeting. Ms Carroll was elected president while Krystal Browne was sworn in as secretary, Angelique Bordon as treasurer and Dorothy Augustin as international officer.
“It was amazing to have so many people show their support early on in such a small town,” Ms Carroll said.
“Being elected president was exciting because I am passionate about community.
"Working in the mental health field, I'm acutely aware that social isolation and disconnection from community can be detrimental to a person's wellbeing. I think the CWA can play an important role in improving people's connection to our town.”
The group received an initial donation of $100 from the CWA of Victoria head office, and a further $200 donation from The Landsborough Catering Group to get things started.
A registration day will be held at the on November 18 from 2pm at the Landsborough Hall to help the group grow.
“It is an exciting time in Landsborough and we will look to make the most of the momentum we have got going at the moment,” Ms Carroll said.
