The Bureau of Meteorology said showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the south and west of Victoria. They said there would be north to northwesterly winds strengthening ahead of a cool change across the state on Friday afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology also said western Victoria is also at risk of damaging winds averaging 90 to 110 kilometres per hour from showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Emergency Management Victoria advised people to be aware of potential hazards caused by the severe weather, which includes damaged buildings, fallen trees and power lines and debris.
They said people may experience asthma symptoms or difficultly breathing due to the combination of thunderstorm activity and high grass pollen levels.
The State Emergency Service advised people to:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around houses, yards and balconies
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
- Stay inside if conditions outside appear dangerous
The next weather warning will be issued by 5pm.
