Seven different properties were targeted in as many days, with the first burglary occurring on October 26.
Sergeant Bill Alford of St Arnaud said that the offenders had targeted vulnerable properties like sports clubs, remote farm houses and service stations, with alcohol and money taken from some of the venues.
“We’re asking the residents of St Arnaud to be very aware of their own security and to make their premises and sporting clubs as secure as can be,” he said.
“Maybe even look at some CCTV being brought online (for your property).”
Sergeant Alford said that police are hoping for an early arrest.
“The police in St Arnaud are very concerned about this great upsurge in burglaries in the last week,” he said.
“We are addressing the issues very closely with increased patrols and we have some good leads to follow up.”
Police believe the burglaries are related.
“I believe the people responsible are people that have just recently returned to St Arnaud,” Sergeant Alford said.
“If anyone is aware of anyone unusually spending money or in possession of things they shouldn’t have, could they please contact Crime Stoppers (on 1800 333 000) or St Arnaud Police (on 5495 1000).”
