Between 9.30am and 1pm on Saturday and 10.30am and 1pm on Sunday, owners can have their pets microchipped for $10, a task usually costing in excess of $50.
“A large percentage of animals, especially cats, that are handed in to the Northern Grampians Shire pound are not microchipped,” an Adoptable Pet rescue spokesperson said.
“Often owners wrongly assume that their cats and dogs are stolen or dead, when in actual fact they are waiting at the pound with no means of being identified.
“Cats and dogs can be reunited with their owners months, in some cases even years, after being lost thanks to the humble microchip.
“The unclaimed animals that are left in the pound are at risk of euthanasia if they aren’t re-homed directly via the pound or through our organisation, Adoptable Pet Rescue.”
