Ambulance Victoria Stawell and Stawell SES members held information sessions at Halls Gap and Stawell on Tuesday to teach people basic life-saving tips.
The three basic steps of calling for an ambulance, pushing down for CPR and shocking with a defibrillator were drummed home to the people that stopped by and listened.
“It was about encouraging people to know what to do if they find someone who has collapsed and letting them know it is very easy,” Ambulance Victoria Wimmera group manager Tim Mayweld said.
“People used to worry about mouth to mouth but nowadays you don’t have to do that, it is just about calling early, pushing to the tune of staying alive and using a public access defibrillator where available.
“We had about 70 people have a go at learning how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR.”
Mr Mayweld and fellow ambulance and SES members also ran a sausage sizzle to raise money for equipment when called to rescues in the Grampians.
“We raised about $240 which will be a big help for us and the SES,” Mr Mayweld said.
