The first day of the Grampians Bowls Division state singles for men was held at the Stawell Bowling Club on Sunday October 7.

20 bowlers entered the competition.
Frank Logan defeated Peter Pianta 25-20 in the first match while Mick Dowling defeated Phil Hewlett 25-20 in the next rink.
Andrew Reading won comfortably over Peter Walker 25-19.
Mick Franklin and Grant Gibson were 24 a piece with Franklin coming up trumps, winning the last.
Mal Curnow gave Rob Cray a free lesson on how to play singles winning 25-8.
Neil Coates defeated Will Hodgetts 25-17.
Ivan McDonald and Brad Smith had a close game, with Smith coming home strong with a 25-23 win.
Frank Logan found Mick Dowling in too good of form going down 25-17.
Andrew Reading was still on a high from the morning win and forgot to refocus after lunch and was defeated 25-6 from Mick Franklin.
Brian Adamson started as a hot favourite against a new bowler Frank Lovelace. With a score 10-14 an upset was possible but Brian moved into another gear winning 25-10.
Bobbo Hodgetts moved through to the last 8 players thanks to a late forfeit from Jon Park.
In the final game Andrew Sharp easily won over the highly credentialed Stan Meale 25-10.
The last day will be held on October 21 at the Stawell Bowling Club with 3 rounds planned for the day.
There are some interesting matches first up Mal Curnow to start a slight favourite against Stawell’s Neil Coates.
Brad Smith will need to play at his best to stay with a red hot Mick Dowling.
Mick Franklin and Brian Adamson will play each other and it will be hard to pick a favourite with both bowlers in great form.
Andrew Sharp will have his home green experience and knowledge against the enigmatic Bobbo Hodgetts.
