Cooinda was successful in its grant application, receiving $147,200 in the latest round of the Inclusive Kindergartens Facilities Program.
“I’m sure the children attending Cooinda will benefit hugely from the outcome of the funding,” Horsham and District Kindergarten Association pedagogical leader Glenda Hewitt said.
“We sat down and looked at ways to improve that outdoor environment and make it more inclusive for children of all needs.
“Cooinda is an ageing building, especially the front playground. We will look to add a big new veranda area out the front plus a sensory garden.”
The program helps kinders become more accessible and inclusive for children of all abilities by upgrading their buildings or facilities.
“We’re improving kindergarten infrastructure in places like Stawell so that kids of all abilities can make the most out of their time at kinder,” western Victoria MP Jaala Pulford said.
Cooinda parent advisory group president Jessica Hodder said the funding allocation is “great news”.
“This grant will help to improve the access to the front of the building and garden with a patio including a sensory garden and quiet space under cover so all children can have access to indoor learning, outside,” she said.
“It's exciting for the kinder community.”
