Some of the best orchids in the region were on display from Friday to Sunday, with a “great turnout” coming along to have a look.
“We had people come from everywhere, some from New South Wales, some from South Australia and plenty from all over Victoria,” Stawell Orchid Society committee member John Welsh said.
“Attendance was pretty similar to previous years but everyone has been telling me to show itself and the plants were the best we have had in a while.”
The show was so popular the stand of plants for sale was completely sold out.
The grand champion of the show hailed from Ballarat, but there were plenty of other minor winners crowned, including Stawell’s own Roy Lee.
Mr Lee had 28 entries for seven firsts and seven seconds.
“I was very surprised but very happy with how well I went,” he said.
“I also had a champion laeliinae.”
Mr Lee said a lifelong involvement with orchids drives his passion for them.
“I was born into orchids basically,” he said.
“Just the variation and amount of difference you can have in them is amazing.”
