Ararat police said the footage showed a blue BMW stopping at the skatepark about 5pm and a man getting out of the back seat of the vehicle, walking to the skate ramps and proceeding to vandalise them.
Several patrons witnessed the incident, which was also caught on the newly installed CCTV system.
Sergeant Shane Allgood described the incident as “brazen”.
“(It was) the middle of the day, and once they’d done that, they hung around for a bit and left,” he said.
The CCTV system helped police identify the vehicle’s registration plates and Sergeant Allgood asked anyone with any further information to come forward.
“We'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about a vehicle like that that's been hanging around. The vehicle is not from here but from Melbourne … and appeared to have mag (wheels) on it,” he said.
Sergeant Allgood said the CCTV system had already shown its worth and thanked those who helped get it installed.
“Thanks to Ararat Community Enterprises who paid for a security system down there,” he said.
“It was installed a week or two ago and that has already paid off by obtaining the vehicle’s registration.
“Anyone with any information can come to me or to Senior Constable Danielle Richardson.”
Sergeant Allgood said people with information could phone Ararat Police Station on 5355 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
